A Kaleidoscope of Capri

Capri is an island located on the south side of the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. Recently, I enjoyed the opportunity to visit and immediately fell in love. Here are five facts about this kaleidoscope colored island.

Creation of Nature. Capri was created some 20,000 years ago when glaciers eroded the peninsula, cutting Capri off from mainland Sorrento. However, under the water nearly 210 feet, the two are still connected. Capri has an area of approximately 4 miles with altitudes as high as 1,932 feet. (Around Rome Tours)

Blue tones of all kinds envelope the island.

An Azure Colored Grotto. One of the greatest marvels of Capri is The Blue Grotto. It is a natural sea cave with crystalline blue water and silver reflections. The azure color is vibrant blue because all red light is filtered out deep underwater before the light enters the cave. It is also believed that the Blue Grotto was one of Emperor Tiberius’ favorite sacred sanctuaries, dedicated to sea nymphs. Because the entrance is only 2 meters wide and 1 meter high, visitors lay back in minuscule rowboats while a guide steers the way. Watch this short clip to experience some of The Blue Grotto’s insane beauty! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdj6bpo5oT0&fbclid=IwAR1xyd9Kld0qd9nqz6QplUwNndTWcSYLnmHg6AJDPgMPeAU6ld5IuPfoxTQ

P

Precious Posies. Extravagant flowers, shrubs, trees, and plants cover the island in the most beautiful of ways. Numerous types of wild flowers can be seen when hiking through the island. The mountainous topography and warm dry climate make limestone Capri a great place for sustainable plant life.

R

Radiant Retail. Capri has some of the highest-quality stores around. Retailers such as Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton line the streets as well as the Canfora Sandal Workshop where former First Lady Jackie Kennedy purchased her shoes and perfume ateliers handcrafting artisanal scents. As expected, prices are much higher in Capri due to the fact that supplies must be imported; however, the quality is top-notch.

Vibrant clothes and accessories of all kinds accentuate the streets of Capri.

I

Incomparable Views. Finally, Capri’s views are truly one of a kind. From the moment you arrive to the isle by boat, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful sea water. As you move throughout the island, hiking up and down the limestone paths, the sights you see on Capri are more beautiful than captured on camera. I am so thankful to take in all of the views of Capri, not only on my camera and phone, but especially in person!
